With the economy it its current state, most companies have less work, employ fewer people, and are making smaller profits than they've seen in years. Many business owners and managers are now faced with making tough decisions to simply stay afloat. I have read a few articles on companies that are changing strategies to remain competitive. Contractors that once offered one or two core services are branching out and providing new ways to capture the short list of clients still building and developing.
Many are starting over, attending tradeshows, and educating themselves on new facets of construction. With different skill sets, these companies will be poised to attract new business when the economy rebounds. One example is "Green Roofing". Roofing contractors that once only built and maintained standard commercial, residential, and industrial roof systems have changed their scope of work to include one of the fastest growing sectors in construction, "Green" building. I found an interesting article on MSNBC.com that suggests "Green Roofing" may actually help offset global warming. Click here to read the article.
How many companies have employed such a strategy? Are there financial benefits to shifting to a more sustainable method of building? Is there governmental assistance available? I would be curious to know if there are tax benefits involved. If you are a contractor who has made a decision to capture this sector of construction or a start-up dealing with "Green Roof" systems, SwapaTool.com would like to hear from you. I believe this is a great concept that people would be interested to learn more about. Join our blog and share your thoughts and stories or click here to contact us directly.
